See the Impact of Our Work

While it’s easy to get caught up in statistics when considering success, the best way to see the impact of what we do at Nurture the Next is by hearing the stories of those who have benefited from our programs. See below to read about some of our favorite success stories from our participants.

By the Numbers

  • 92% of children in our home visiting service reach all their development milestones

  • 81% of parents who reported symptoms of depression were connected with mental health services.

  • Family enrollment in home visiting programs grew by nearly 25% from the previous year.

  • Parenting class participation grew by more than 40% from the previous year.

  • Mother mentors served more moms this year, more than 60% more than the previous year.

  • 12,313 calls to our statewide domestic violence helpline last year.

In-Home Support

Recently, a home visitor shared about a mother who has had many struggles with mental health. To address this, the home visitor and mother explored curriculum focused on finding her strengths and utilizing them to her advantage. After multiple conversations, the mother said she had never viewed herself as having strengths, and it has motivated her to be involved in her community and to volunteer at her children’s school. The mother also mentioned that she “feels stronger in her parenting knowing that she has support and is viewed as a capable individual that can be a light to others.”

Another home visitor shared a recent text she received from a mother in Healthy Families. The text stated, “Hey, I was just texting you to say the techniques you guys use are amazing. [Child’s name] came to me yesterday and expressed that she was mad, “Mommy, I’m mad,” with her hands crossed. I have never had any of my kids express their feelings, especially this early. I’m so happy right now.” The home visitor shared that hearing how the information shared during home visits was being practiced by the family and is making a positive difference was so significant to her.

Parenting Classes

In spring 2022, we hosted a one-day Nurturing Parenting seminar for families served by a community partner. Our contact at the agency recently informed us that one of the moms who was in attendance has actually been applying what she learned in the seminar and has been able to receive unsupervised visits with her children as a result!

Mother Mentorship

“I have one mom who has been having a really rough time with her abusive significant other, and she says my randomly sent words of encouragement are really helpful as she gets to find a way to leave him.” – NTN Mother Mentor

“It is extremely gratifying to have many engaged moms who trust me enough to ask for help. It is always wonderful to hear when my advice is beneficial.” – NTN Mother Mentor

Crisis Services: Domestic Violence Helpline

A mother sent a text message to the Domestic Violence Helpline because she was attempting to leave a violent relationship. She needed to discretely reach out for help and feared for her child's safety. A Helpline Specialist provided emotional support over text and linked the mother with local resources. After receiving support from the Helpline, the mother could secure bus tickets to flee from the violence.
